That's yet another bug in Alpha 3. You also get hurt/start burning inside a chopper when you land on a fireplace (and some vehicles create invisible fire).
There is no way to turn off the fire of burning wrecks.
I haven't touched A3 for some time now, so it might be fixed in the dev version already, but no idea.
