Short Overview ----------------- "Matrix" is a multiplayer only mission and played best 4 vs. 4. Each side has its own money to buy weapons, vehicles and upgrades like artillery support. There are five factories located at the island Skye, which have to be captured by the teams. A factory is an HQ in which you can buy weapons cheaper or simply respawn. For me, it is important to create a mission, in which you are only able to be victorious as a team player or by means of playing with your enemy. Because of this, there are many features like an EMP weapon or satellite viewing, which gives you the opportunity to find members of the other team, spectate them and then plan your assault strategy from noiseless infiltration to total destruction. The name "Matrix" is a working title and has just a little bit to do with the film, i.e. you can teleport from phone cell to phone cell. One game durates more than an hour, because you often play cat and mouse with your enemy. 2. Some Features ---------------- - money to buy equipment - almost all weapons and vehicles of OFP:CW and Resistances - upgrades like "emergency teleporter" or "satellite" - fast day/night and weather simulation - civil activity - teamkiller punishment system - custom quick keys provided by FWatch - missions to accomplish apart from the main objective - limited fuel and refuel stations - no restrictions on the island (hide & seek) - in-game music controller - a lot of useful symbols on the map - flashlight - security cameras in the factories - wormholes - teleporting accidents 3. First Steps -------------- Because this mission is very complex you need to learn how to use all features provided with it. To do so, don't play multiplayer, but create a server for your own and choose "Intro off/Debug on", which gives you 100,000 Credits to test some features. Firstly, read the manual provided in-game (the briefing on the map screen). It is very long, so read it step by step and then some features. You can also explore the mission by moving around and scrolling through the action menu. After several hours (no joke!) you are ready to play Matrix seriously (server: "Debug off"). 4. Requirements --------------- - Original version of Operation Flashpoint Resistance 1.96 - All addons listed under "12. Credits" - Some time to read the in-game manual 5. Current Status ----------------- Because Armed Assault is released, I decided to show you an early alpha version before the work on it will stop completely (started on May 2004). Some functions are undocumented or features like the upgrade "protective shield" don't work, at all. The balancing is miserable and there will be some errors, but I also played it several hours without any. If there is any demand for it, I will continue work, but temporary I stop. For bug reports, criticism, etc. cf. "12. Credits". 6. Languages ------------ The mission is both playable in English and German mode, but the in-game manual, which is very important to understand it, is unfortunately in German only. Because I play in the English mode without any problems, I recommend it to you. 7. FWatch ---------- FWatch is an addon which provides some script features needed by Matrix. It is not possible to play without it, so please look for the readme file of the FWatch addon to get it work. Always start Matrix with the FWatch.exe or it will not be playable. 8. Debugging Console -------------------- There is a powerful bulit-in debugging console to manipulate the game and search for errors. You can find it in the action menu, but usage is of your own risk and other players will get a message that you are maybe a cheater. So please don't use it, either. 9. Dedicated Server ------------------- Dedicated servers are supported, but they were tested rarly, so there are maybe more errors than playing without any. 10. More Realism ---------------- For more realism play in veteran mode only. The irTargets (the white, red and green squares on the top of the screen you can see when you are driving a vehicle) should be deactivated with a tool provided by me (just write an e-mail or unpbo the mission .pbo) to guarantee that no one uses them to find the enemy, because there are many in-game solutions for this. The DOS tool is named "OFPconfig.exe" and you have to copy it into your Operation Flashpoint\Res\Bin directory and execute it. After finishing, one byte in your config.bin will be modified to disable irTargets ("set irTarget=0" is printed on screen). This will affect the hole game and you will not be able to lock onto a target with the right mouse button (AT4 and RPG will be as useless as LAW!) To undo the change, just overwrite th modified file with a backup of config.bin you have done before or simply run the tool another time ("set irTarget=1" is printed on screen). The tool is compatible with all versions of config.bins, but be aware that you use it at your own risk, so backup your files! 11. Known Bugs --------------- For a version history see VersionHistory.txt provided with this mission. a) Known Bugs: - there is a great performance impact, especially on older machines, when you are playing as server - upgrade "protective shield" has no function - out of synchronization in the intro - some damaged vehicles loose fuel (this is OFP hardcoded!) - the clients are sometimes not able to move - if one side owns all factories, there is no way for the other team to recapture one, because they are not able to buy a bomb - error messages may be seen on screen, but they do not influence the game, at all - some minor bugs b) Coming Features: - in-game credits for all addon creators - many more missions - custom sounds - picture and description for each vehicle - outro - a more realistic artillery with differnt types of ammunition, etc. 12.
